No matter the style of your home, new windows will add character and beauty that will last for years. Choosing quality windows not only gives your home added style, but will also increase value while reducing energy costs. There is a significant difference between a retrofit window replacement and what is called a full “New Construction” window replacement. First Choice Carpentry will only do a full and proper “New Construction” installation, as it is a superior installation method. Retrofitting your existing window is problematic because:

  • Lack of Proper Inspection – A thorough inspection of your siding, framing and insulation for rot or damage can’t be done when retrofitting a window.
  • Not a ‘Best Fit’ - When cutting away the old window, parts of the frame are left attached to the studs in the wall and the new window is simply fit over the top and screwed into place. This is then sealed with a bead of caulk. Anyone who has lived the Pacific Northwest for long enough knows that a bead of caulk is an insufficient seal for a window.
  • Insufficient Weatherproofing & Energy Efficiency –Discrepancies in the sizes can leave gaps that must be filled with insulation and caulk, neither of which is weatherproof or provides the energy efficiency that a custom fit window will achieve.
